Local building departments are adjusting to the effects of COVID-19 and are limiting the amount of paperwork submitted into their offices. As a response to this trend, the Florida Board of Professional Engineers just approved an emergency rule to help engineers during this time. We think this will be a good short-term test for the building department as they adjust to impacts of the virus. At the end of the day, we hope it leads to long-term changes in the permitting process as it will certainly minimize the waste of paper in our industry.
